Early Years Department (ages 2 ½ to 4) Statement of Purpose
The aim of the Early Years Department is to provide the children with a welcoming, safe, happy and stimulating environment in which they can thrive and develop at their own pace, socially, physically, emotionally and academically.
The children are encouraged to be self-motivated and independent, yet aware of their peers. The Early Years is a bridge from home to school and an introduction to the more structured environment they will encounter in Reception.
The Early Years Foundation Phase Framework, leading to nationally approved outcomes, guides the activities in the Early Years and links closely with that of the Reception class to ensure progression and continuity for the children.
The Foundation Phase has, at its core, practical-based activities collectively designed to foster self-esteem, a positive attitude, creative, expressive and observational skills and physical well-being. Outdoor activities too are vital to this process.
The experiences provided for all children in Early Years are based on seven ‘Areas of Learning’ and their outcomes.
The children will be provided with activities designed around the seven learning outcomes:
- Knowledge and Understanding of the World.
- Personal and Social Development, Wellbeing and Cultural Diversity
- Language, Literacy and Communication skills
- Welsh development
- Mathematics Development
- Creative Development
- Physical Development – gross motor and fine motor.
