Facilities
The school oversees more than 30 sports taught as part of the curriculum or as extracurricular activities. We view PE and games as integral to a young person’s physical and mental well-being and our expectations are for pupils to support their teams in school time and at weekends.
The campus houses a wealth of facilities for traditional school sports including rugby, hockey, cricket, netball and tennis as well as a swimming pool, squash and badminton courts, sports hall and fitness suite. We have also recently reintroduced the game of Eton Fives, which is played at one of the school’s three Fives courts. Find out more about Fives at Rydal Penrhos
We have an athletics track nearby, and the local area, with its hills and woodland, is ideal for cross country running.
Being ideally placed between the sea and the mountains, we strive to make the most of our location in the activities we offer. The school is an RYA accredited sailing centre and all pupils are taught to sail from Year 7. Owing to our close proximity to the sea, we are one of very few schools that are able to teach sailing as part of the school curriculum.
Skiing is a popular sport among pupils and is included in the school timetable in years 7 and 8, becoming optional further up the school. We are fifteen minutes from an outdoor dry ski slope with beautiful views of the sea and the nearby mountains, and pupils can go for training in Snowdonia, at the nearby Plas-y-Brenin slope.
