Applying to universities in the US
Rydal Penrhos School opens as an SAT centre every December, for students to take SAT I or II examinations. SAT I examinations are essential for entry to the US colleges. SAT II subject tests are optional and pupils studying a subject at A-level or in the IB will usually do well in the subject tests. Students who take the IB diploma often can skip some freshman classes and can be offered attractive scholarships for good IB diploma scores.
Students wishing to study in the US are advised on how to proceed and given guidance to make the best possible application.
Applying for competitive courses in the UK
Pupils wishing to apply for competitive courses at Oxford or Cambridge, or for Medicine, Veterinary Science or Dentistry are identified at the beginning of year 12. They are then encouraged to attend taster courses and apply for programmes like Medlink and Headstart.
UCAS applications are prepared in early September to make sure they meet the October 15th deadline. Additional practice interviews are then arranged in November and December to maximise the chances of success of the pupils.
