Freezing fieldwork for IB Biologists
Biologists in the Lower sixth form braved the elements to complete an ecological training day in Snowdonia this week. The day allowed the International Baccalaureate (IB) pupils to be fully prepared prior to having to design and conduct their own experiment later this term.
Field work is routinely carried out during the summer months as the mountains discard their winter hibernation and living things come out to play. The pupils however weren’t lucky enough to experience a sunny day and they found themselves working in sleet and high winds! Despite this the pupils worked well and with good humour to acquire the skills and data needed for them to develop their own projects.
Biology is a hugely popular subject at Rydal Penrhos School, with pupils carrying out practical work inside and outside of the laboratory on a regular basis.
