Athletics season off to a fine start
Thursday 10 May -Conwy Schools’ Championships, Eirias Park
The Conwy Schools’ Championships heralded the start of the Athletics season, with several pupils from Rydal Penrhos School taking part.
Despite the team’s preparations being hampered by the dreadful weather, Rydal Penrhos produced some outstanding individual performances. Matthew Harding has started to follow in his brother’s footsteps and won the 800m with the time of 2:26. Tom Cotterell achieved 2nd in the 200m and 4th in the 100m.
Our youngest team member, Victoria Young, cleared 1.37m in the High Jump to finish second and Hannah Cashell and Abigail Klazinga secured 3rd place in their events. Imogen Long came 2nd in her 300m and 3rd in the 200m.
The standard of the middle boys’ competition this year was very good with Eirias dominating the whole competition. Our senior boys and girls once again stepped up to the mark with some fantastic performances from Laura Nunez-Mulder and Annabel Large.
The senior boys’ competition all came down to the relay but, despite the best efforts on Osian, Rhodri, Harry and Oliver, we lost the competition by 1point.
Well done to all those who took part on the day and good luck to all the individuals who have qualified for the Eryri Championships.
