U16 squad take part in 7s tournament
Saturday 3 March – Merchant Taylors’ U16 7s tournament, Liverpool
The U16s played in the Merchant Taylors School Invitational 7s, a very strong tournament with some of the top rugby playing schools in the North West attending.
Our group consisted of Manchester Grammar School, Wirral Grammar School, Woodhouse Grove School and Birkenhead School.
In our first game we came up against a strong Manchester Grammar School side but, unfazed, we played a positive but patient style unfortunately losing 25 points to 12. Game 2 should have seen us play Birkenhead but sadly they didn’t turn up meaning we ended up with a two hour break between games. After this enforced break we played the two strongest teams in the competition. In both games the opposition were both physically bigger and stronger, add to that a dash of skill and it was always going to be an up-hill struggle and that it was, as we lost by 35 points in both games!
The squad played well in every game never giving up, keeping their composure when in possession and tackling with determination when in defence. A day of progress on many fronts, well done to all, especially the four Year 10 players who travelled.
