Ellie is picked to play for Wales
A 12 year old pupil from Rydal Penrhos School is celebrating after receiving her first Welsh cap.
Ellie Scarff was one of only two girls selected from her age group to represent Wales at the International Tri-Nations Tennis Tournament in Dublin recently.
Competing against players from Ireland and Scotland, Ellie was selected as Number 1 for the Under 12 Girls. Despite losing her first match against her Scottish opponent, Ellie won a closely fought 2nd match against an Irish competitor (final score 6 4, 6 4).
Ellie is currently ranked 23rd in the Under 12 category in Great Britain aims to improve this position through lots of training during the winter season. Ellie is also ranked at number 65 in the British Under-14 category and finished in the top ten at the LTA AEGON Summer Regional Tour which took place at the end of August.
Pupils at Rydal Penrhos are encouraged to become involved win a wealth of sporting activities from rugby and hockey to skiing and sailing. Taking part in the sporting framework can help pupils develop physically, socially and emotionally while also increasing self esteem, confidence and tolerance.
