Hockey showing promise against All Hallows Brisbane and King’s, Chester

Monday 27 September 2010 – hockey match report

Friday 24 September – 1st XI v All Hallows Brisbane (home)
The 1st XI continued their good start to the term with a hard fought win over All Hallows Brisbane. Having already played netball earlier in the afternoon, the school began quickly and were two golas up in as many minutes, but then there seemed to be a fatigue factor, which meant that players tried to overdo the role on the ball and the opposition were allowed to dominate the game for a long period during which the defence were required to keep the team in front. However, in one of the fluent moves, the school drove down the left of the pitch and extended the lead. The second half was a different game as the passing improved and the fluency returned, and this enabled the school to dominate until the last few minutes, eventually finishing 5-1: winners.

Saturday 25 September – mixed U15/U16 v King’s, Chester (home)
On Saturday a mixed U15/U16 side took on King’s, Chester. Despite not having played together as a team, and taking some time to find the patterns required for fluency, they dominated in both halves and ran out 2-1 winners, with goals from Charlee Holmes, showing increasing confidence and ability as the game progressed.

Saturday 25 September – U14 v King’s, Chester (away)
The U14 side also playing King’s, were less fortunate, and despite passing well at times, they struggled against a more skilled and powerful side. Despite strong performance from Elisabeth Richards at the back and Annabelle Harrison in midfield, they could not contain their opponents and went down 0-5.

Saturday 25 September – U13s v King’s, Chester (away)
The team got off to a slow start, but Seren Kerfoot-Robson went on to clinch their first goal. In the second half, King’s worked hard and gained an equaliser, but Rydal Penrhos rose to the challenge, with Seren scoring the winning goal in the final minutes of the game.

Saturday 25 September – U12 A & B teams v King’s, Chester (away)
The U12 teams travelled away for their very first fixture this term. The A team had an impressive start to the season, maintaining their formation and pressure on King’s, which resulted in two goals by Ella Ward and Ellie Scarff. In the second half King’s came back stronger, and thanks to some excellent saves by Lily Walsh, they were able to hold onto their 2-0 lead.

The B team were not so successful, however there were some impressive performances by Alice Waltham playing down the wing, and Ellen Flannery, who set up a goal for Amelia Perring. Final score in this match was 3-1 to King’s.
