Paris catwalk comes to Rydal Penrhos
Shimmering lights, paparazzi, designers from Paris and Milan, gorgeous models strutting the catwalk………… yes, Rydal Penrhos has it all! The event – Trash Fashion 2010 – and what an event it proved to be!
In early November, Daisy Tudor, Head Girl of Rydal Penrhos School and the Eco Committee innocently approached the Head of Sixth form Mr Matthews with the idea of raising money in aid of the two charities supported by the school during this academic year, namely a Kenyan Orphanage in Nakuru and the Ugandan Schools Project. Of course, what began as a small project developed into what was, ultimately, a tremendous evening of entertainment for pupils and parents. The audience were treated to the rugby players’ version of the Hakka and their well choreographed ‘Tribal Dance’, whilst the girls showed everyone how to wear ‘trash’ in diverse fashionable and stunning ways, proving that consumers ought to be slightly more discerning and conservative in their approach to shopping.
The highlight of the evening, however, was the array of magnificent costumes designed by one of the students, Virginia, who, from such things as toilet issue, newspapers, magazines and plastic bags produced wedding dresses, stylish evening wear, and party costumes which were simply stunning!
The evening was a complete success as it brought together teachers, parents, sixth form students and some younger pupils. Everyone had great fun and the Eco committee raised £500 for two very worthwhile causes.
