Home Economics
Home Economics has become an increasinlgy popular choice at GCSE in recent years, and the department often achieves what is elusive in many schools, in that the subject is equally popular with boys as with girls.
Several pupils have moved on to university to study related subjects for teaching, in recent years.
Throughout the school, the department is frequently involved in fund raising and competitive events including House competitions, which are always popular with the pupils.
Why study Home Economics?
The Home Economics department at Rydal Penrhos School provides an exciting and sound grounding in many aspects of food technology and home economics, particularly nutrition related topics and practical skills in years 7, 8 and 9.
This is a subject that allows pupils to apply knowledge and understanding in a practical context. The study of Home Economics at Key Stage 3 lays an appropriate foundation for post-16 studies in areas such as food science, food technology/industry, consumerism, nutrition and dietetics.
