A gifted vocalist and aspiring stage performer managed to secure an outstanding grading success from a new initiative.
Zahra Shamsi, a Year 12 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, recently sat her Gold Medal (Grade 8) Certificate in Musical Theatre, which was administered by the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
This new opportunity was implemented by Music teacher Richard Davies with a view to giving talented Performing Artists at the school training in Musical Theatre.
Zahra produced a sensational effort in front of adjudicators to come away from the assessment with a Distinction, which is the latest in a series of notable accolades from the Sixth Former.
The 17-year-old is set to play a significant part in the upcoming Dramatic Society production of Les Misérables in her role as Éponine Thénardier , and Zahra’s exceptional voice is a constant feature at the variety of concerts organised by Rydal Penrhos throughout the academic year.
Director of Music Pete Williams, said: “This result is further proof of just how much talented Zahra has for all things related to the performing arts, and it is fantastic to see her hard work on the Music Theatre aspect paying off with a truly exceptional assessment mark.
“We are fortunate to have such a wonderful teacher in Mr Davies to lead our aspiring stage performers, with his passion, knowledge and ability to inspire are a wonderful asset to our pupils and the school as a whole.”
