A swimming sensation at Rydal Penrhos is in the final stages of preparation ahead of a major international competition.
Zach Speakman, a Year 11 pupil at the school, is about to embark on an International Meet in Luxembourg after securing another call-up to the Swim Wales youth squad following an incredible series of recent results.
The 16-year-old sports scholar will link-up with the squad before travelling to the continent for the showcase, which will take place from Wednesday, January 23 until Monday 28.
It has been another campaign of outstanding progression and results for Zach, who has benefitted considerably from Rydal Penrhos’ dedicated sport scholarship programme and his involvement with Swim Wales.
This has brought with it some notable achievements, with the ambitious pupil claiming two Golds, one silver and a bronze from the Winter National Championships to surge up the UK rankings.
He also gained another significant milestone with his first international gold in the 200-metre Individual Medley at a meet late last year.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Zach has done a wonderful job of pushing himself even further over the last few months, which has further elevated his status as one of the brightest young swimming prospects anywhere in the country.
“He is a hugely committed individual who is thriving academically and in a sporting environment, and he typifies everything we look to install into our sports scholars here at Rydal Penrhos.”
