Year 6 to take part in RSPB Big Schools' Birdwatch

Preparatory School pupils will be taking part in a nationwide nature activity next week.

The Year 6 group at Rydal Penrhos pupils will be participating in the Big Schools’ Birdwatch, which is being run by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, on Wednesday, February 15.

During the event pupils will be completing bird-related activities including making bird boxes, in addition to viewing and identifying birds in the area.

Results of their findings will be sent to the RSPB to be correlated with others from across the country, which helps the charity draw a picture of the health of our bird populations.

Big Schools’ Birdwatch is an educational activity that has been designed to get young pupils’ throughout the UK closer to nature.

Every year, educators from every corner of the UK take part with their classes and resources for the activity are provided by the RSPB.

Prep School head Roger McDuff, said: “The RSPB do a fantastic job in not only conserving our birds, but also finding fun and interesting ways for children to become more knowledgeable and interested in nature.

“Events like this are important for their future studies and Rydal Penrhos is delighted to be taking part once again.”
