Year 6 produce special project from recent Religious Studies topic on Islam

A Preparatory School year group have been praised for their efforts during a special Religious Studies project.

The Year 6 contingent at Rydal Penrhos recently completed a course surrounding Islam, where they explored all aspects of the religion over a number of different sessions.

Their final activity was to draw a picture illustrating a famous story about the angels escorting the Prophet Muhammad to meet God in heaven.

This proved to be a trick task due to the fact that drawing a picture of Muhammad is forbidden, and the pupils were also unable to draw God or the angels!

They shifted their focus to the “fabulous beast” Muhammad rode on, the city of Jerusalem, Arabic writing or the Gardens of Paradise as the main feature behind their creations.

Each picture was judged with a view to winning a special prize, with Amber England-Bryant and Cieran Milligan chosen as the best and most innovative drawings relating to the project.

Both pupils received a book published to mark World Book Day and International Women’s Day, written by the famous young Muslim woman Malala Yousefai, from Executive Principal John Waszek and Prep School Head Alison Hind at Rydal Penrhos’ weekly Celebration Assembly on Friday, March 15.

Mrs Hind, said: “This was a topic that each member of the Year 6 group got an enormous amount out of, and this was reflected in the outstanding work that they produced.”
