A host of young mathematicians descended on Rydal Penrhos for a special academic competition.
The school hosted a Year 5 Maths Challenge at the Memorial Hall on Wednesday, February 20, which saw a number of primary school teams test their skills against each other in a competitive and friendly environment.
During the competition, each team were tasked with successfully completing a series of different tasks designed by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust under the support and guidance of teaching staff and Lower Sixth Form pupils Holly Battersby and Raha Aminnejad.
The popular relay round saw a frantic conclusion and proved to be a significant deciding factor in the overall outcome, with no fewer than five of the teams taking part securing maximum points from the final round.
After a hugely competitive and exciting morning of activities, Ysgol Awel y Mynydd accumulated enough points to secure the overall prize, which they received from Senior School Head Sally Ann Harding.
Ysgol Pen y Bryn also performed exceptionally well throughout and managed to achieve second spot, with Blessed William Davies rounding off the podium places in third.
Mrs Harding, said: “It was heart-warming to see so many young mathematicians working together as a team to solve some testing challenges, and I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to everybody that took part.
“We are very proud of our links with local primary schools from across the region here at Rydal Penrhos, and I hope each visiting school got a great deal out of the specially arranged competition.”
