A Preparatory School year group performed a classic Welsh hymn during a special event prior to the half term break.
The Year 2 contingent at Rydal Penrhos were tasked with working on a performance relating to Calon Lân, a Welsh song written in the 1890s by Daniel James (Gwyrosydd) and sung to a tune by John Hughes.
The song was originally written as a hymn, but has become firmly established as a rugby anthem, associated with the Welsh rugby union, being sung before almost every Test match involving the Welsh national team.
The group have been working on their Welsh language skills with teacher Nerys Williams and following some impressive and this was followed by some impressive individual learning at home.
After a number of different rehearsal sessions with Music teacher Richard Davies, the Year 2 pupils took the stage during a recent Celebration Assembly on Friday, February 22, where they performed the iconic hymn for those in attendance.
They received a huge ovation thanks to their outstanding performance.
Prep School Head Alison Hind, said: “Our Year 2 group really took on this particular activity with a huge amount of enthusiasm, and it is vital that they are fully aware of their Welsh heritage which is extremely important in our beautiful part of the world.
“They all deserve a great deal of credit for their commitment, and they were supported exceptionally by Mrs Williams and Mr Davies.”
