A trio of Cross-Country stars at Rydal Penrhos helped their regional side turn in a gold medal performance recently.
Samantha Randall, Samiya Garrod and Mollie Smithfield, all Lower Sixth Form pupils at the school, were part of the Eryri squad that won the overall team trophy at the Welsh Schools’ Cross Country Championships in the Brecon Beacons.
The running sensations booked their place at the showcase by qualifying through the regional event, and made a huge effort to help the region claim a major prize from what was a highly competitive event.
This is the start of a busy season for Mollie and Samiya, who will spearhead Rydal Penrhos’ newly formed Triathlon squad at a series of competitive fixtures over the coming months.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “This is a fantastic achievement from our pupils and the Eryri team in the face of stern competition.
“Mollie, Samiya and Sam can be very proud of what they have accomplished with the squad after doing so well to earn their place among the best runners’ in the area.
“Cross-country running is not easy but all three applied themselves exceptionally throughout the preparation, which is evident when you see the final results.”
