Rydal Penrhos’ talented young tennis squad made an encouraging start to the season last weekend.
The U15 and U14 girls’ sides took on Moreton Hall School on Saturday, April 21, and there were a host of impressive displays that can give them plenty of encouragement ahead of a busy term of fixtures.
Anna Parry-Williams and Alicia Zhou demonstrated impressive teamwork to come away with a win, draw and loss from their three contests, while the duo of Sydney Johnson and Cerys Cuddihy produced some eye-catching strokes from their matches throughout the afternoon.
Amanda Sperring and Eleanor Osbourne also performed well, and all hit the ground running thanks to the preparation each pupil taking part has received in the lead-up to the campaign thanks to the sterling work of dedicated staff at Rydal Penrhos.
Head of Girls’ Games Nicky Head was also hugely complimentary of the effort shown by the U14 squad during their opening clash.
She said: “The first game was a well matched, where the girls fought hard throughout and had some brilliant rallies.
“During the game, Beau and Rebecca played some excellent long shots and some fast serves. They then played 20-minute games against the other rankings.
“There were some fantastic volleys from all pairs during these games. With Carmen and Phoebe, Ellen and Tasnim improving each game with their communication, positioning and strong return shots. Well done girls you all played very well.”
