A former Rydal Penrhos pupil has been named in the Welsh Netball squad for a major international competition.
Suzy Drane will be part of the national side that will look to achieve success at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, which will take place on the Gold Coast of Australia in April.
The talented star, who turns out for Celtic Dragons, is a lecturer in Sport Development and Performance Sport at Cardiff Metropolitan University and is also an ambassador for school travel firm MSG Tours.
She has continued her strong links with Rydal Penrhos as a guest coach on a tour of Greece, while she also delivered a masterclass to young hopefuls as part of the university’s North Wales recruitment afternoon.
Another former pupil Dylan Kerfoot-Robson will also be part of the Welsh contingent travelling to the southern hemisphere.
Helen Phillips, Chair of the Commonwealth Games Wales Board, said: “Today’s squad announcement is another exciting and important step in Welsh Netball’s preparations for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
“Congratulations to all the players who have made it to the final squad. They will no doubt be looking forward to representing their nation with pride in Australia this April.
“We would also like to extend a warm welcome to Julie Hoornweg as Interim Head Coach, and wish her and all the team at Welsh Netball, the very best with the final preparations for the 2018 Games.”
