A former Rydal Penrhos pupil will captain the Welsh Netball side for two important fixtures this week.
Suzy Drane, who plays for Celtic Dragons, will lead the national squad in their Netball Europe World Cup qualifiers against Scotland and Northern Ireland to be held in Perth, Scotland on Friday, January 19 and Saturday 20.
The talented athlete, who is also a lecturer in Sport Development and Performance Sport at Cardiff Metropolitan University, will be looking to add to the recent list of successes as part of the group, who recently secured a sweep over Samoa to clinch the Wendy White Series.
Drane recently returned to her roots to provide Rydal Penrhos and Coleg Llandrillo hopefuls with a special master class as part of Cardiff Met’s North Wales recruitment afternoon, and she was also part of the school’s coaching staff on their tour to Greece.
Head Coach Trish Wilcox, said: “We are very excited to be heading to Perth to take part in the Netball Europe World Cup Qualifiers.
“These matches are must wins for us with all three countries so evenly matched we are looking forward to three closely contested test matches. It is going to be a thrilling and tense couple of tests.
“We are confident in our abilities and have had an excellent preparation with the players well prepared to give it their all in the red dress.”
