The Rydal Penrhos Study Centre is an ideal venue for students who would like to make use of this spectacular and unique landscape to tackle the fieldwork elements of their AS, A2 or International Baccalaureate examinations.
We offer programmes tailored to the needs of your group which will focus on the particular requirements of the Awarding Body you have selected. The investigations listed on our programmes build on the specific strengths and interests of our team of geographers and geologists and are permanently under review, particularly when the reformed AS and A2 specifications are published.
What we offer
The Rydal Penrhos Study Centre is located in a newly-refurbished building on our school campus. It can accommodate 30 pupils plus two members of staff (with extra accommodation for additional members of staff available if needed). There are two well-equipped classrooms, a common room and kitchen facilities (for making snacks) in the Study Centre, allowing visiting groups to have classroom-based lessons and leisure time all within the same building.
Breakfast, lunch and evening meals will be eaten in the school dining room, or packed lunches provided for excursions. If required, the school’s ICT rooms, Learning Resource Centre and impressive sporting facilities, including swimming pool, can also be made available. In short, students at the Study Centre will enjoy access to all of the high-quality amenities that are appreciated by our own boarders.
Where we are
The school is a 40-minute drive from Chester, 70 minutes from Liverpool, and 90 minutes’ drive from Manchester. For travel for fieldwork, the school is 15 minutes from the Conwy valley, 35 minutes from Betws-y-Coed, the ‘gateway to Snowdonia’, and 40 minutes from Llanberis. The beaches of Anglesey are a 40-minute drive.
