Staff and pupils at Rydal Penrhos lent their support to a regional fitness initiative last weekend.
The school group made the short trip to the RSPB Nature Reserve in Llandudno Junction for the Conwy Parkrun on Saturday, January 13.
Eleven pupils in total participated in the picturesque 5km run alongside around 300 others in what was their third anniversary, and Morgan Kendall was the first pupil home in 11th spot, with Sixth Former Jamie Smith close behind.
Other notable efforts came from Amelia Berthold and Lennart Paulsen, while Augustus Skierus’ work ethic was commended by Deputy Head Tim Cashell during Chapel on Monday.
Among the staff members that took part were Headmaster Simon Smith, Andy Thomas, Sarah Seenan, Pete Lavery, Allen Boyd and Susan Livingstone.
Rydal Penrhos will be offering pupils and staff the opportunity to take part in the Conwy Parkrun on a weekly basis as part of the school’s Weekend Activities programme during the spring term.
Mr Smith, said: “Despite the cold wind blowing off the water, it was one of the most uplifting and positive experiences of my recent life.
“All our pupils finished and everywhere I looked I happened to see other members of staff from the school or other familiar members of the community.
“It was, for an early start on a January Saturday morning, an utterly joyful experience and not just because I happen to be a keen runner but because it restored my faith in community and peoples’ commitment to improvement in addition to the pupils' sense of achievement on the minibus as we travelled home with our packed breakfasts.”
