Every pupil at Rydal Penrhos is encouraged to become involved in the wealth of sporting activities at the school so that he/she is physically and mentally challenged. He/she can perform within a framework that provides a broad and balanced programme to develop physically, socially, emotionally and cognitively, and to encourage the development of personal qualities such as self-esteem, self-confidence, tolerance and empathy. Supported by a team of dedicated staff, pupils of all ages and abilities take part in a PE, games and activities programme that offers a wide range of pursuits.
In maintaining a diverse and strong fixture list in major games and other sports, we encourage and support team players and also promote those who aspire to compete at a higher level where possible.
We aim to achieve the highest possible standards so that pupils, whatever their ability, fulfil their potential.
Mr Allen Boyd, Director of Sport, ABoyd@rydalpenrhos.com
The school campus houses a wealth of facilities for traditional school sports including rugby, hockey, cricket, netball and tennis as well as a heated indoor swimming pool, squash and badminton courts, sports hall and fitness suite. We have a short game area for golf and play the game of Eton fives at one of the school’s four Fives courts.
The school is an RYA accredited sailing centre with our own seafront boat park, and all pupils are taught to sail from Year 3. Thanks to our close proximity to the sea, we are one of very few schools to teach sailing as part of the school curriculum.
Skiing is also a popular sport among pupils. We are 15 minutes from an outdoor dry ski slope with beautiful views of the sea and the nearby mountains, and pupils often participate in trips to the indoor skiing facilities in Manchester.
