A large number of Rydal Penrhos’ performing artists achieved success at a prestigious regional event recently.
The group came away with a plethora of honours from the Chester Festival, which featured some of the most talented performers from across the North Wales and North West.
In the Junior category, Ruby Merrick scooped first in the Prepared Reading category, while the fivesome consisting of Emily Jones, Eve Durrans, Ella James, Ada Vonbank, Caitriona Searl and Ruby won the Devised Scene competition.
A host of young performers’ also finished in the podium places from their respective events, with Will Tavernor, Christian Cheesley, George Watkins and Freddie James all performing admirably throughout.
The Middle School section also brought with it considerable success, with Shruthi Ganapathi coming away with the Reading at Sight honour and Ellen Jones, Pip Thomas, Sophie Williams and Darcie Harker-Weston winning the Devised Scene event.
Josh Peevor, Bella Rutherford, Alicia Zhou, Amy Yue, Beau Holden and Vanessa Ma were others to finish in the top three in various categories in the section.
Barooj Maqsood managed to achieve a notable double as a result of her efforts, emerging victorious from the Reading at Sight and Spiritual Reading competitions, with Charlie Freytag, Harry Hackman, Finlay Hare, Ruby James and Grace Ormerod claiming second place certificates.
A notable mention also goes to Sophie Madden, Lili Northcott, Emma Hackman and Imogen Camp for receiving commendations from festival judges.
This represents a significant achievement for the Speech and Drama group, who have been working immensely hard with expert support from teacher Christina Bloomfield, which has seen them progress significantly throughout the academic year.
