A Preparatory School skiing sensation has made a strong start to a prestigious national youth competition.
Xavier Poynton, a Year 3 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, is competing against some of the most promising young skiers in the country at the GBR Series, which is held over a number of weeks in an indoor and outdoor environment to determine the overall victor.
The eight-year-old managed to secure a high-profile sponsorship deal for the event, with Zip World making Xavier a Brand Ambassador for the competition.
His first leg efforts were exceptional on the outdoor circuit, resulting in Xavier securing top of the podium in the U10 category thanks to a series of standout runs.
This was followed by another medal-winning performance in the first indoor leg at the Chill Factore in Manchester, where Xavier finished in third spot to further enhance his ever-growing reputation.
It promises to be another busy few weeks for the pupil, who developed his skills considerably over the Easter break thanks to his continued involvement with the Ambition Racing squad, which is an elite programme that Xavier earned a place on last year.
Prep School Head Alison Hind, said: “Xavier’s enthusiasm is matched by his natural ability on the slopes, and for him to perform so consistently on a national stage is a testament to his ability to handle pressure and his exceptional work ethic.
“Hopefully this is a trend that can continue long into the future, and we wish Xavier well during the rest of the GBR Series.”
