As part of a series of features leading up to our Sixth Form scholarship application deadline on Monday, November 12, we take a look at some of our current Year 12 and 13 pupils that have thrived thanks to their involvement with the scheme.
We continue with Music scholar Nia Humphreys:
Nia joined the school in September on a sports scholarship after impressing during the application process, and she is following in the footsteps of brother Euan, who was part of the Rugby Academy programme which is run in partnership with Principality Premiership side RGC and the Welsh Rugby Union.
The 16-year-old has enjoyed a glittering young career to date with Llandudno and Pwllheli, and has also represented North West Wales County over a four-year period.
Nia was also selected to the Welsh Netball Performance Pathway that aims to produce future players who progress into the World Class performance programme, and she was one of the youngest players to join the North West Wales Development Training Centre in 2014.
Outlining her decision to accept the scholarship to Rydal Penrhos, Nia said: “My brother went to the school and thoroughly enjoyed himself, in fact, I'd say he thrived at Rydal Penrhos so naturally I want the same for me.
“But it’s more than that, probably it is the history of the school. Every time I have visited, seeing my brother, playing sport or through the applications process it just felt the right fit of school for me and one I think best suits to set me up to be my best.”
Llandudno: Player of the Year (Year 8), Coaches Player and Shooter of the Year (U13), Player of the Year (U14), Captain of LA league Winners (2016 – U16), North West Wales Netball League Runners-up (2015 – U13), Rydal Penrhos Netball Tournament (2017), Ysgol Eirias Young Sports Ambassador (2014 – 2016).
