Sixth Form Scholar Focus: Jack (Sport)

As part of a series of features leading up to our Sixth Form scholarship application deadline on Monday, November 12, we take a look at some of our current Year 12 and 13 pupils that have thrived thanks to their involvement with the scheme.

We continue with Sport scholar Jack Jones:

Whether it be on the rugby pitch, on the hockey surface or at the crease, Jack has been a valued member of Rydal Penrhos’ sporting provision and is another fine example of what can be achieved as part of the school’s dedicated sports scholarship programme.

The 17-year-old has been a member of the Rydal Penrhos community since joining as a Year 4 pupil in 2010, and was awarded a Sport Scholarship to the Senior School in 2012.

He has made a significant impact through the school’s youth ranks during that time, progressing his skills considerably under the guidance and expertise of dedicated coaching staff situated at Rydal Penrhos.

This has resulted in a series of impressive achievements, with Jack earning representative honours with RGC U16's despite having no club affiliation during his time of selection.

His leadership and overall influence on the school’s First XV was acknowledged with the captaincy for the current season, with his contribution on their landmark tour of Japan going a long way to securing the sought after appointment.

Jack has also played a hugely significant role in the success of Rydal Penrhos’ thriving Hockey department, and was part of the U18 side that secured the Welsh Schools’ Championship during what was a memorable double-winning campaign for the programme.

He is a prominent member of the First XI Cricket side and has performed well with the Football squad to further enhance his reputation as one of the brightest sporting talents currently at the school.

The scholar is also a boarding pupil at Beecholme, and he has embraced living and learning at Rydal Penrhos by broadening his horizons thanks to the diverse culture at the school and aiding his house considerably during Inter-Boarding House Competitions.
