As part of a series of features leading up to our Sixth Form scholarship application deadline on Monday, November 12, we take a look at some of our current Year 12 and 13 pupils that have thrived thanks to their involvement with the scheme.
We continue with Academic scholar Ioan Peake-Jones:
Ioan joined Rydal Penrhos as a Year 5 pupil in 2011 and was awarded an Academic scholarship to the Senior School after impressing considerably during the testing process.
The 17-year-old has proved most deserving of this recognition, achieving a considerable amount during his time at the school across a wide range of different fields.
His GCSE examination results this summer were nothing short of extraordinary, with Ioan securing A* marks in Biology, Chemistry, Design Technology, History, Mathematics, and Physics, in addition to a Distinction in Additional Maths.
Ioan also secured nine marks in English (first language) and English Literature, an eight in Religious Studies and a seven in French in accordance with the new grading system to cap off a memorable set of results for the pupil.
There was further cause for celebration as Ioan was awarded the prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarship following a successful application process, and he recently attended a special ceremony in London alongside fellow pupil Arend Franssens in recognition of his fine achievement.
He has also secured success in the UK Maths Trust’s Intermediate and Senior Challenges, has secured his RLSS Pool Lifeguard qualification, formed part of the F24 Greenpower Race team and received a Headmaster’s Award for his overall contribution to Rydal Penrhos life last year.
Ioan is currently in Madrid, Spain with Head of Careers Mike Farnell and Sixth Formers Luke Davies, Edward Patrick, Harry Hackman and Tomos Cole-King, who are working on their Cold War project as part of the Erasmus Project.
