Aspiring Preparatory School rugby stars began their season in style with two encouraging performances last week.
Rydal Penrhos’ U9 and U8 sides took on The Ryleys on home soil for two hugely competitive fixtures that saw both set of players produce some exceptional rugby that was played in the right spirit.
The U8 tag rugby side were in good form throughout their victory, with Oscar Jewsbury one of the standout performers on the day, scoring a series of impressive individual scores.
Others to catch the eye were Tomas Milligan, Charlie Lister-Brookes and Xavier Poynton, but it was a superb collective effort from the group that can give them plenty of cause for optimism as the season progresses.
The U9 side also performed well as they continue to adjust well to the tackling rugby environment, with the pacey Shane Ayeni adding to his outstanding recent performances with another virtuoso display.
The contributions of Grayson Williams, Harry Nurse, Jorvan Toor, Felix Griffin, Noah Roberts and James Davies were another massive plus for the team during the encounter.
Head of Boys’ Games Jamie McLeod, said: “Each member of the U9 and U8 squads have benefitted significantly from the specialist coaching we offer here at Rydal Penrhos, and it is great to see all their hard work during training really paying off in a competitive environment.
“They all buy into the school’s ethos of working together to achieve their goals, which is going to stand them in extremely good stead going forward.”
