Rugby: Team news released for annual Cooper Cup clash with Colwyn Bay

Team news has been released ahead of the highly anticipated first leg of Rydal Penrhos’ annual Cooper Cup clash with Colwyn Bay this weekend.

The Preparatory School’s U8, U9, U10 and U11 sides will all be competing against their nearby rivals over two legs, and the idea of the annual event first originated some years ago from members of the Junior Section who had connections to both the club and the school.

The cup has been named after Ken Cooper, who was a master at the Senior School for many years but also played for and was President of the club.

It has proved to be a hotly contested affair over the years, with the first leg to take place at Colwyn Bay on Saturday, February 10 from 10.30am.

The school’s U8 side boast a significant amount of talent in the likes of Jenson Hodgson-Roberts, Tomás Milligan and Xavier Poynton, with the U9 squad consisting of the pacey trio of James Davies, Shane Ayeni and Felix Griffin.

Dominic Chamberlain, Nathan Richards, Will Glanville and Archie Jeeves are expected to feature heavily for the U10 team, and big things are expected of skipper Cieran Milligan, vice-captain Freddie Barrington-Chance and Head Boy Ellis Lister-Brookes as part of the U11 squad.

The Cooper Cup second leg will take place at Rydal Penrhos on Saturday, March 23.
