A number of former Rugby Academy stars at Rydal Penrhos helped RGC to one of their finest victories of the season last weekend.
No fewer than six ex-pupils from the school took the field for the Gogs in their outstanding 45-17 Principality Premiership triumph at in-form Bedwas on Saturday.
Dion Jones, Danny Cross, Sam Jones, Efan Jones and Mei Parry all started the contest, with Josh Leach making a contribution from the bench.
The away side wasted no time in making an impact when Efan went over after good work from Dion and Sam, with Billy McBryde adding the extras.
A Joseph Scrivens penalty reduced the arrears soon after, before RGC’s powerful pack produced a surging drive that resulted in an Evan Yardley touch down. McBryde converted.
This same pattern of okay continued throughout the first period, with Harri Evans and Sam Jones both crossing the white wash to secure the bonus point and McBryde remaining perfect with the boot.
James Richards and Luke Crane dotted over either side of half-time to keep the hosts in-touch, both of which were converted by Scrivens, but further scores from Jones and Danny Cross, in addition to a penalty try, put the exclamation point on proceedings for the Gogs.
This is the latest in a series of successes from former Rugby Academy graduates throughout the season with the RGC senior side and at other high-profile clubs across the country.
