Rugby League: Will named in Welsh Students squad for summer fixtures

An aspiring rugby league star at Rydal Penrhos earned another national squad selection with a strong showing in a student trial game.

Will Lynch, a Year 13 pupil at the school, started for the North Wales Students side that took on their Southern counterparts in a special fixture on Sunday, March 3 in Monmouth, and they managed to emerge victorious by a score of 24-14.

The Prefect has enjoyed a glittering young career to date and was recently part of the Welsh U19 Rugby League squad that achieved a superb third-placed finish at the European Youth Championships in Serbia.

Will played a significant part in the side’s success, scoring tries against Ukraine and the hosts.

He has experience with one of the best amateur sides in Great Britain – Leigh Miners Rangers Academy – a set up that has produced numerous professional and international players over the years.

Will also received a U16 scholarship at Salford City Red Devils and has represented RGC U16s within the Rugby Union youth system.

Allen Boyd, director of sport at Rydal Penrhos, said: “This is another considerable achievement for Will and one that he can look back on with a great deal of pride.

“He is a fine example to others with his outstanding work ethic and dedication both to his studies and his sporting development, and his experience on the national stage is sure to boost the overall prospects of the Welsh squad considerably during their upcoming internationals.”
