A talented rugby star at Rydal Penrhos has been selected for a regional youth squad for a high-profile upcoming fixture.
Kieron McNamara, an Upper Sixth Form pupil at the school, has been called-up to the Lancashire U18 squad for a series of their clash with Cumbria, which will be held at Darlington Mowden Park on Sunday, October 29 (12.30pm kick-off).
The 17-year-old boarding pupil earned his place in the line-up after impressing selectors during a series of training sessions with the extended training squad, and he will now look to make a significant contribution to put himself in contention for further games in the coming weeks against Cheshire and the highly anticipated roses rivalry encounter against Yorkshire.
McNamara, who joined the school last year, has represented Broughton Park and starred for Rydal Penrhos in their Cheshire Plate victory and on their successful tour of Portugal.
He has also been taking part in sessions with the Irish Exiles programme while also aiding younger hopefuls at the school during Saturday training sessions
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Kieron has come on a significant amount since he joined our programme at Rydal Penrhos, and everyone is thrilled that he has made the Lancashire U18 squad.
“Hopefully this will be a stepping stone for bigger and better things in the future and our dedicated team will strive to ensure that Kieron’s potential is realised and his goals are met.”
