A host of talented rugby stars at Rydal Penrhos were part of the RGC U18 squad that kicked off their WRU Age Grade Competition last weekend.
No fewer than five pupils were selected for Sunday’s clash with Ospreys, where the Gogs suffered a 22-6 reverse at Parc Eirias.
Dan Owen, who has made a host of senior appearances this term, captained the side, with Adam Sabri and Henry Davies both giving a good account of themselves after being named in the starting XV.
Euan Humphries and Nick Dundee were named as replacements.
The home side found it tough throughout the contest in what was described as a “learning curve” by senior figures, with a pair of Armani Roberts penalties making up the scoring against the South Walian outfit.
They will look to bounce back from this setback when they take on Cardiff Blues in the competition’s second stage.
The RGC Academy, which is run in partnership with Rydal Penrhos and the Welsh Rugby Union, has produced a raft of players who have progressed into the senior side, with six already featuring for the Gogs throughout their debut campaign in the Principality Premiership.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “While it was not the result that they wanted, occasions such as this are essential in a young players development, and all our pupils that took part can be proud of their efforts.”
