Rydal Penrhos’ first XV geared up for their Cheshire Plate quarter final against Wirral Grammar School with an impressive weekend victory.

The group turned in a stylish performance to secure a 32-10 win over Oswestry School at New Field, as the side continue to show significant improvement

A sluggish start to proceedings saw the hosts fall behind to a try within the opening five minutes, but they responded well to the setback and dominated the contest thereafter.

Thanks to a series of impressive attacking phases, the home side managed to cross the white wash three times in quick succession courtesy of Mason Clark, speedster Sean Hughes and Ewan Luke to give them a comfortable advantage at the interval.

After the break saw the same level of commitment from the Rydal Penrhos squad, with the talent of Lancashire U18 squad member Kieron McNamara standing out during the second period.

The talented sports scholar turned in another eye-catching display and helped himself to a pair of scores to seal the triumph.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “This was a very pleasing result and hopefully it will enable the players to approach the game with Wirral Grammar with real confidence and positivity.

“They are gelling as a unit with every game and they have shown a great deal of progress, which gives us plenty of hope for optimism in a competition that we were fortunate enough to win last season.”
