A Rydal Penrhos pupil has been named in the RGC squad for their Principality Premiership clash at Llandovery this weekend.
Dan Owen, an upper sixth pupil at the school, has been named among the replacements for the Gogs’ trip to South Wales, where they will be looking to make it two wins from as many outings in the second phase of their debut top flight campaign.
Talented forward Owen, who has made a number of senior appearances this term, also captained the RGC U18 side during the recent WRU Age Grade Regions Tournament.
A number of former Rydal Penrhos pupils are also in the squad, with prop Joe Simpson retaining his place in Mark Jones’ side.
Mei Parry and scrum half Efan Jones will also be looking to make an impact from the bench if called upon.
The Gogs go into Saturday’s contest on the back of a thrilling 25-24 win over Merthyr at Parc Eirias.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Dan has shown this season that he does not look out of place playing Premiership rugby, which is a sensational achievement for a 17-year-old player who is still developing his craft.
“He is benefitted immensely from his experience with the RGC senior side this season, which is further proof of how well our Academy is breeding future stars.”
