Preparatory School rugby stars turned in a sensational effort to emerge victorious from a long-running competition.
Rydal Penrhos hosted Colwyn Bay in the annual Cooper Cup clash on Saturday, March 24, which saw the tie played over one leg and the home side winning the competition for a fourth year in succession courtesy of a 3-1 aggregate score.
The hosts began in positive fashion with the U8s securing a fantastic 11-9 victory over the Bay in a tag rugby format, which saw outstanding performances from skipper Felix Griffin, Shane Ayeni and James Davies.
This was followed by a fantastic collective effort from the U9 squad, who were in sensational form to triumph over 11-3 against the visitors, with the likes of Jorgie Lynch, Dominic Chamberlain, Archie Jeeves, Cameron Pye and Will Glanville contributing significantly throughout.
The away side ensured a tense ending to proceedings with a 4-1 win in the U10s game, but Rydal Penrhos secured the cup in convincing fashion courtesy of the U11 side, who produced another memorable effort to come away with a 42-14 success.
The team were marshalled superbly well by captain Liam Farrell, with Harley Doyle, Max Cowen-Wright, James Gilman and Ethan Akroyd some of the standout performers on the day.
Head of Boys’ Games Jamie McLeod, said: “It was a fantastic morning of rugby and congratulations go to both Rydal Penrhos and Colwyn Bay for putting on yet another outstanding Cooper Cup.
“Each game was played in the right spirit and was a superb demonstration of the rugby talent we have in the area, and I was absolutely thrilled with the level of commitment shown by the school squad to win the cup once again.”
