A number of Rugby Academy graduates from Rydal Penrhos finished the season off in style with RGC last weekend.
Efan Jones, Sam Jones and Josh Leach were part of the Gogs’ side that secured an emphatic 63-24 home victory over Principality Premiership runners-up Cardiff at Stadiwm Zip World in Colwyn Bay.
A blistering start to the contest saw Billy McBryde produce an exceptional piece of individual skill before offloading to Jordan Jones, who ran over for the opening score. McBryde added the extras.
This was followed by yet another try immediately following the restart when Andrew Williams crossed the white wash, and Billy Rae also dotted over thanks to another sweeping attacking move to give them a commanding cushion after 15 minutes. McBryde nailed both conversion attempts.
The away side finally managed to get a foothold in the contest through a score from Chris Lewis, with Ben Thomas drilling the conversion, but RGC responded well and managed to seal their bonus point on 27 minutes when Rhys Williams’ silky run resulted in a touch down. McBryde notched the extras.
They managed to follow this up through another try which came courtesy of Thomas, which was unconverted.
After the break saw McBryde extend the Gogs’ advantage with an outstanding run that began at his own 22 and finish across the line, with the fly-half remaining composed to slot over the conversion.
Skipper Evan Yardley marked his final appearance in an RGC shirt with a score of his own after good work from Rhys Williams, with McBryde adding the extras, and there was still time for further joy in the closing stages when Efan Jones, Sam Jones and Nick Butterworth all managed to cross to complete the rout.
