Rugby Academy graduate Sean notches first European Champions Cup win with Exeter Chiefs

A former Rugby Academy star reached another significant milestone as part of his effort with in-form side Exeter Chiefs.

Sean Lonsdale, who left the school in 2015, secured his first European Champions Cup victory with Chiefs in their resounding 34-12 victory over French champions Castres at Sandy Park.

This is the latest in a series of notable successes for Lonsdale, who was part of Rydal Penrhos’ Rugby Academy that is run in partnership with Principality Premiership side RGC and the Welsh Rugby Union.

He has made a significant impact for the Chiefs’ senior set-up this season and notched his first Gallagher English Premiership try in their triumph over Bristol Bears that saw them move four points clear at the top of the standings.

Lonsdale is one of the shining lights that have emerged from the Academy, which has produced a plethora of Gogs’ senior squad members in addition to other successful graduates that are plying their trade at other prestigious clubs across the country.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Sean’s achievements are a testament to the great talent he possesses and his ability to grasp every opportunity that comes his way at the top level.

“His ongoing progression serves as a great yardstick to our aspiring athletes currently living and learning at Rydal Penrhos, and we are enormously proud to have played a part in Sean’s success.”
