Aspiring Preparatory School rugby 7s stars gave a very good account of themselves at a high-profile tournament.
Rydal Penrhos’ U11 squad travelled to Lancashire for the Rossall School 7s Festival on Wednesday, March 6, and they were put into the Advanced Group given how much they have developed as a unit in a short space of time.
They began the tournament with a narrow 2-1 loss against St Mary’s Hall after a hugely competitive affair, and this was followed by a thrilling 2-2 draw with King William’s College.
The group then fell to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Stockport Grammar School, who eventually went on to win the entire Festival, but they did manage to close out the tournament on a high thanks to their 2-1 triumph over Terra Nova School, which featured a Man of the Match performance from Will Hibbert.
Head of Boys’ Games Jamie McLeod, said: “The boys did extremely well and they were very competitive even in the games they lost.
“The rules are a little bit different in England in terms of how high you can tackle, and although they did not agree with some of the refereeing decisions during the Festival not once did they protest of back-chat, which is a further testament to how well they represented the school.
“They are a fantastic bunch who are very talented, and they can be enormously proud of their performances and the way they conducted themselves.”
