A young Preparatory School pupil has achieved a notable milestone as a reward for his application in the water.
Rufus Glanville, a Reception class pupil at Rydal Penrhos, managed to secure his STA 20-metre swimming badge after learning under the supervision of dedicated staff at the school’s swimming pool.
The five-year-old managed to achieve the feat thanks to the coaching he has received as part of Rydal Penrhos’ swimming lesson programme, which have been implemented with a view to improving confiednce and techinque within a short space of time.
Under the scrutiny of STA swimming instructor and Rydal Penrhos employee Andrew Edgley, Rufus managed to swim more than the 20 metres required to earn the badge, and the ambitious pupil has set his sights on gaining his 50m badge before he finishes the academic year.
The school’s swimming staff will be hosting another Easter Swimming Intensive course over the Easter holidays, which have proved to be a very valued and popular addition to the calendar in recent months.
This is the latest in a long line of opportunities offered by the department, which also include Lifeguard, Scuba Diving and First Aid courses.
Mr Edgley, said: "Rufus has been showing great enthusiasm in his swimming programme and has been showing a lot of determination to reach his goal.
"During half term, he booked in to have a private lesson where he thrived. He achieved his five metres badge and went on to achieve his 20 metre badge also.
"Rufus managed to swim 25 metres and once he does it another time he will achieve this badge as well. Rufus’ dedication and determination he has managed to achieve his goals and he is only in reception so this is fantastic."
