Rydal Penrhos School is delighted to reveal a record-breaking set of A-level results.
As results were announced nationwide on Thursday, August 16, the Upper Sixth Form pupils secured 45.1% A*-A grades, which is the highest in the School’s history by some margin since the introduction of the A* grade.
More than a quarter of all grades were A*, which is another record, and 63.7 per cent of grades were A*-B marks as a result of their exceptional efforts.
The School also recorded a 100 per cent pass rate to round off a phenomenal year of academic excellence from the Year 13 group.
There were a host of individual accomplishments, with Matthew Trumper gaining A* grades in Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics, in addition to an A in Economics.
This included a combined score of 597 out of a possible 600 in his Mathematics papers, and he will now move on to the University of Durham where he will study Physics.
Chinese boarding pupil Linda Wang confirmed her place at Oxford University after two A*’s, an A and a B, with Sara Owen securing a place at King’s College London where she will study Medicine after three A* grades, which included 585/600 in her Maths papers. This is an addition to the recent IB Diploma Cambridge success of Ben Gibson.
Amy Cole-King (A*, 3A), Rebecca Lawton (2A*, A), Elinor Davies (A*, 2A), Emily Cashell (2A, B) and Vivia Li (2A*, A, B) were other pupils that attained exceptional marks to fully reflect their academic progression under the guidance and care of staff at Rydal Penrhos.
Headmaster Simon Smith praised the contribution of each Year 13 pupil during an academic year that has included a pupil-led campaign to renovate the Sixth Form Ferguson Centre, U18 Boys national schools’ Hockey champions and various other individual and group achievements on the regional and national stage.
He said: “Such a set of results is a great credit to the pupils embracing our "5Ls" philosophy. It shows that whilst we must focus on Learning, in all its guises, all the other Ls, the co-curricular, the creative and an outstanding pastoral support (including the transformative impact of boarding) can have a dramatic effect too. Academic performance is a culmination of many factors and influences.
“It is also a credit to our academic leaders, the pupils' teachers and Tutors; their professionalism, dedication and own commitment to professional development in researching the very best teaching practice.
“In addition to our recent site developments these results can only enhance the School's reputation as one of the top boarding schools in the North West. Exciting things are happening and our staff can all be very proud of their part in it.”
