Budding Preparatory School mathematicians performed well during a special competition organised by staff at Rydal Penrhos.
Two teams from Rydal Penrhos’ Prep site made the short trip to the Sixth Form Ferguson Centre for a Year 5 Primary Schools’ Maths Challenge, which featured a host of other educational establishments across the region.
During the competition, each team had to successfully complete a series of different tasks designed by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust under the support and guidance of teaching staff and members of the school’s new Sixth Form Prefect team.
After a hugely competitive morning, the Rydal Penrhos team of Cieran Milligan, Fflur Pierce, Tristan Griffiths and Violet Roberts managed to secure second place as a result of their efforts, and there was further success in the form of Zack Coverley, Rana Abou-Samra, Keira Luke and Grace Watkins, who scooped third place.
A contingent from nearby Ysgol Hen Colwyn emerged victorious from the competition, which also featured entries from Ysgol Pen y Bryn and Ysgol Frongoch in Denbigh.
Prep School Head Alison Hind, said: “It was fantastic to see our Year 5 teams working so well together throughout the competition, and we were delighted that they managed to perform so well during the challenge.
“Hopefully they got a tremendous amount out of the experience and I would like to thank everyone who travelled to Rydal Penrhos to take part in the challenge once again.”
