Rydal Penrhos is now officially recognised as a running group with Parkrun UK, with everyone associated with the school able to track their progress on the initiative’s website throughout the calendar year.
Parkrun organise free, weekly, 5km timed runs around the world. They are open to everyone, free, and are safe and easy to take part in.
These events take place in pleasant parkland surroundings and we encourage people of every ability to take part; from those taking their first steps in running to Olympians; from juniors to those with more experience.
The school has been actively engaged in the Conwy Parkrun events throughout the academic year, which has seen special trips arranged for day and boarding pupils on a weekly basis with a view to improving fitness in a relaxed and friendly environment.
A number of staff also took full advantage of the opportunity, with Maths teacher Andy Thomas using the initiative in preparation for his successful London Marathon attempt, which raised thousands for St Kentigern Hospice in memory of his mother-in-law.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Adding Parkrun trips to our weekend schedule has been an immensely popular addition to the calendar, and we are delighted to be given recognition as an official running group for the scheme.
“The Parkrun initiative is a great way for people of all ages to improve their physical fitness around the picturesque landscape we are fortunate to be situated around here at Rydal Penrhos, and hopefully the initial success of our participation levels will continue long into the future.”
