Pupil Profiles: Zahra

In the lead-up to our Open Morning events in April, we will be taking a look at the pupils that make Rydal Penrhos such a fantastic place to live and learn.

The latest Senior School pupil under the spotlight is Zahra Shamsi:

  • Name: Zahra Shamsi
  • Year group: Year 11
  • Pupil status: Day
  • House: Osborn

A fantastic young woman with a wonderful attitude to life, Zahra is another incredibly talented pupil with a very bright future.

The 15-year-old is one of the best vocal talents currently living and learning at the school, and has fully immersed herself into all areas of life at Rydal Penrhos since enrolling as a Year 3 pupil back in 2009.

Her contribution to the various concerts throughout the year is always something that each member of the audience looks forward to, with her powerful voice leaving a mark on everyone that has ever heard her sing.

This resulted in a recent X-Factor audition at Llandudno’s Venue Cymru, where we are still awaiting the final outcome, and she also triumphed in the recent Senior Inter-House Music Competition with her rendition of the Demi Lovato hit Stone Cold.

The pupil has also taken full advantage of the stage performing aspect put on by Rydal Penrhos’ Drama department, and has played a significant role in the recent success of the Dramatic Society productions of To Kill a Mockingbird and Annie the Musical, which were directed superbly by Leah Crimes.

Zahra was also a standout performer in this year’s RPS Showstoppers event, which was held over two sold-out nights and drew rave reviews.

She has also been working hard to kick stereotypes as part of the Mochdre Lionesses FC alongside mother Rahat, who is also part of the squad.

The team also features Rydal Penrhos’ Head of Modern Foreign Languages Susan Livingstone, and they are currently participating in a series of friendlies in the hope of joining a league in the near future.

The family members have recently featured in the #OurSquad initiative, which is aimed at inspiring, empowering and encouraging more women and girls in Wales to get active through sport.

Zahra is also thriving academically under the guidance of Rydal Penrhos’ dedicated staff, with her efforts during the recent GCSE Art examination coming in for significant praise.
