Pupil Profiles: Ruby

In the lead-up to our Open Morning events in April, we will be taking a look at the pupils that make Rydal Penrhos such a fantastic place to live and learn.

The latest Senior School pupil under the spotlight is Ruby Merrick:

  • Name: Ruby Merrick
  • Year group: Year 7
  • Pupil status: Day
  • House: Wesley

After being at Rydal Penrhos for nearly a decade, it came as no surprise that Ruby transition to our senior school was as seamless as it could possibly have been.

The Drama scholar has been involved in an enormous amount across all areas of school life since September, and this is something that is attributed to the wealth of opportunities available to each pupil at Rydal Penrhos, and the overall strength of the current Year 7 group.

Her efforts on stage have been a source of great pride, with the pupil playing a huge part in the recent RPS Showstoppers event held over two sold-out nights, while she also came away from the Chester Festival with a double first thanks to her outstanding work under the guidance of staff at the Speech and Drama department.

This has been followed up by a standout contribution as part of Rydal Penrhos’ Drama Club, who performed a special Pantomime to raise funds for Water Aid, in addition to securing a number of grading successes from her Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music assessments.

Ruby’s involvement in various community projects has been another exceptional element of her academic year, with her polite mannerisms and caring nature coming to the forefront during their work with residents of Merton Place for a Memory Book project.

She is also coming on a great deal in the classroom and is making full use of Rydal Penrhos’ academic scholar sessions, while the Wesley house member has played a key role in the success of the U12 girls’ hockey and netball sides in recent months.

Rydal Penrhos will be holding Senior and Prep Open Morning events on Friday, April 26 and Saturday 27 from 9.30am, and to book your place contact Admissions Officer Jenny Marsden on 01492 530155 or email admissions@rydalpenrhos.com.
