In the lead-up to our Open Morning events in April, we will be taking a look at the pupils that make Rydal Penrhos such a fantastic place to live and learn.
The latest Senior School pupil under the spotlight is Emily Li:
- Name: Emily Li
- Year group: 2018 Leaver
- Pupil status: Boarding
- House: Edwards/Wesley
Studying abroad in unfamiliar surroundings can be a daunting prospect, but it is one that Emily has not only grasped fully, but the Sixth Former is also helping those looking to follow in her footsteps.
The ambitious boarder has created an online platform for overseas students thinking of studying in either the United Kingdom or the United States of America, which enables them to find out more about what to expect and offers guidance in a number of areas in order to achieve their goal.
The prominent features of the platform include interview processes and techniques, entrance exam information, in addition to advice on living abroad and adapting to life in a different culture.
Emily is also offering English lessons to ready those using the platform further ahead of a possible education abroad, and she also revealed that thanks to the hard work of her team the business is already "turning a profit".
She is also an extremely talented mathematician who has thrived under the guidance of Rydal Penrhos’ staff, which has resulted in regional and national competition success as part of the UKMT Senior Challenge.
This also saw Emily gain a distinction in the Girls’ British Mathematical Olympiad, and also earned a place at the British Mathematical Olympiad training camp in Budapest last year.
Her seamless transition to boarding school life is a testament to her overall character and the support she has received from Edwards House matron Fiona Earle, and has set her sights on a place at the London School of Economics when she starts the next stage of her further education journey later this year.
The International Baccalaureate candidate has clearly made a significant mark on Rydal Penrhos life despite only joining in 2016, and has taken full advantage of every opportunity that comes with being a boarder at the school.
Rydal Penrhos will be holding Senior and Prep Open Morning events on Friday, April 26 and Saturday 27 from 9.30am, and to book your place contact Admissions Officer Jenny Marsden on 01492 530155 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
