In the lead-up to our Open Morning events in April, we will be taking a look at the pupils that make Rydal Penrhos such a fantastic place to live and learn.
The latest Prep School pupil under the spotlight is Cieran Milligan:
- Name: Cieran Milligan
- Year group: Year 6
- Pupil status: Prep
- House: Pembroke
The Milligan family have formed something of a dynasty here at Rydal Penrhos, and Cieran has been at the heart of a wide range of different achievements from the three family members.
With sister Ariana thriving in the senior school and brother Tomás showing enormous signs of potential in Year 2, as the middle sibling, Cieran has also developed considerably under the care of dedicated staff at the school since he enrolled as a Reception class pupil in 2013.
The ten-year-old has gained a significant amount of sporting and academic accolades in recent months, with the crowning jewel being his selection to the Eryri Cricket Wales (National Development Centre) squad as the youngest member of the group.
Cieran was put forward for the programme by his coaches at Mochdre and has benefitted enormously from the expert coaching offered at the school’s winter nets initiative.
He has been a consistent and impressive performer with the U11 rugby side despite playing in the senior squad as a Year 5 pupil, while he has also made his presence felt as part of the Colwyn Bay youth set-up to further outline his immense potential.
Cieran is also a gifted cross-country runner who has gained success as part of Colwyn Bay Athletics Club at various regional events, including second place in the 50-metre sprint at the North Wales Indoor Championships and seventh overall in the U15 Dragon Dash race ahead of the Anglesey Half Mile.
His academic determination has seen him develop considerably across all areas, and he has already outlined a possible career path in the engineering industry, which has been enhanced thanks to his participation in a summer holiday programme at Jaguar Land Rover in Halewood.
This saw Cieran given a guided tour of the factory and he took part in a selection of hands-on activities designed to strengthen team building and engineering skills.
