Pupil Profiles: Alex Benfield

In the lead-up to our Open Morning events in April, we will be taking a look at the pupils that make Rydal Penrhos such a fantastic place to live and learn.

The latest Senior School pupil to feature is Alex Benfield:

Name: Alex Benfield

Year group: 2018 Leaver

Pupil status: Boarder

House: Morgan

Leading is a key element of the education we offer here at Rydal Penrhos, and this has been especially evident in the overall development of Sixth Form pupil Alex.

He has shown an incredible level of progression in academic and co-curricular activities thanks to his hard work and the expert support he has received from staff at the school, and this culminated in his appointment as Head Boy following an immensely impressive application process.

The pupil has grown to be a significant and valued member of the school community since enrolling as a Year 7 pupil in 2011 after joining from nearby Treffos School alongside current Head Girl Olivia Williams.

The pair returned to their roots to be the guests’ of honour at the opening of their new artificial surface, where they were also given the opportunity to speak with the current crop about the benefits of Boarding School life at Rydal Penrhos.

Alex’s leadership qualities were also recognised by Director of Sport Allen Boyd, who appointed him Rugby captain for the season, and led the squad through a series of impressive performances in addition to their landmark tour of Japan.

He is also part of the school’s senior Hockey and Football sides, in addition to contributing to the wide-ranging success achieved by Beecholme at Inter-Boarding House events throughout the academic year.

The 18-year-old has served as a tremendous role model to younger members of the school, while also offering support and guidance to boarding pupils as a senior and respected member of Rydal Penrhos life.

Alex’s work in the community has also been a key element to his time as Head Boy, with the Sixth Former contributing to events such as the Colwyn Bay Remembrance Day Service, and he was also part of the Rydal Penrhos squad that took on North Wales Dragons in a charity football match in aid of child safeguarding organisation The Offside Trust.

Rydal Penrhos will be holding Senior and Prep Open Morning events on Friday, April 26 and Saturday 27 from 9.30am, and to book your place contact Admissions Officer Jenny Marsden on 01492 530155 or email admissions@rydalpenrhos.com.
