A group of Preparatory School swimming stars performed well at a national event last weekend.
The Rydal Penrhos youngsters travelled to Cardiff to compete at the Urdd Primary National Gala after successfully qualifying through the regional heats.
There were a number of impressive performances throughout the competition, with Matthew Johnson finishing in tenth spot in the 50m Backstroke event in a time of 46.99.
Nathan Richards finished 12th in the 25m freestyle (20.49), while Liam Farrell broke the one minute mark on his way to 16th in the 50m Butterfly.
The Prep School relay sides also performed well, with Jorgie Lynch, Jorvan Toor, Dominic Chamberlain and Richards narrowly missing out on a podium finish after coming fifth in the Boys’ Freestyle event.
Ellie Knight, Lily Copeland, Lynch and Richards also came fifth in the mixed relay, while Martha Rose Johnson, Copeland, Knight and Agatha Favill secured eighth in the Girls’ Medley relay.
Rounding off the entries were the Boys’ Medley relay team of Johnson, James Gilman, Cieran Milligan and Farrell, who clocked a time of 1:26.61 to seal seventh place, and Johnson, Farrell, Ethan Akroyd and Will Rutherford finished ninth in the freestyle relay.
Head of Swimming Maciej Ruszkowski, said: “It was a very pleasing performance from our Prep School swimming squad, and they consider themselves very unfortunate not to have some medals to show for their efforts throughout the Gala.
“They managed to secure some very impressive times both in the individual and relay events, and this should give them plenty of encouragement for the future.”
